Continue shoppingRobotime kits are laser-cut with high precision, but occasionally a part may feel too tight when fitting into a slot, joint, or screw hole. Before forcing the piece, try a few simple adjustments. In most cases, light sanding, wax, or a small adjustment to the screw is enough to solve the problem without damaging the model.
Before sanding or adjusting anything, make sure the part is facing the correct direction and fully aligned with the assembly diagram. A piece that is rotated, reversed, or slightly misaligned can feel much tighter than it actually is.
If two wooden parts rub against each other or feel too tight to fit together, lightly sand the contact area using fine-grit sandpaper. Focus only on the edge, tab, or surface that is causing friction.
Remove only a small amount of material at a time and test-fit frequently. It is much easier to sand a little more than to repair a loose fit caused by over-sanding.
For moving parts, gears, sliders, drawers, rotating mechanisms, and even tight screws, a small amount of wax or soap can help reduce friction and improve movement.
Apply only a thin layer to the contact surface or screw thread, then test the fit again. Remove any excess before continuing assembly.
If a part still feels excessively tight after checking the fit, sanding lightly, and inspecting the slot, stop and investigate further. Forcing a part into place is one of the most common causes of broken tabs, cracked pieces, and damaged assemblies.
