Where Should I Display My Finished DIY Kit?

After completing a Robotime, ROKR, Rolife, or Rowood DIY kit, the next question is often simple: where should it go? The best display spot should make your finished model easy to enjoy, safe from accidental bumps, and suitable for its size, lights, theme, and delicate details.

Display Ideas for Finished DIY Kits

01

Create a Dedicated Display Shelf

A dedicated shelf keeps finished models organized and makes them easy to enjoy every day. It works especially well for miniature houses, book nooks, and light-up kits because the scenes can become part of your home decor.

Tip: Community member @samca shared a group of illuminated miniature houses displayed together on a shelf in “Late Night Miniature Glow”. Keep light-up models near an accessible power switch or battery box so you can turn them on easily when you want to enjoy the display.
02

Group Similar Themes Together

Displaying finished kits by theme can make a collection feel more intentional. You can group reading-themed book nooks, garden scenes, street shops, music kits, or seasonal builds together, then add books, plants, or small decor around them.

Tip: Community member @kialo arranged several reading- and garden-themed builds together on a five-tier display shelf in “The Magical Reading Zone”. Add books, plants, or small decor around related kits to make the display feel more complete without overcrowding the models.
03

Display Models with the Lights Turned On

Many miniature houses, book nooks, and other light-up models reveal their best details when displayed with the lights turned on. Warm lighting can make small scenes feel more realistic and create a cozy atmosphere in a room.

Try displaying illuminated models against a darker background or in areas without strong overhead lighting so the details remain visible.

Tip: In “Late Night Miniature Glow”, @samca shows how warm lighting can completely change the atmosphere of a finished miniature scene after dark. If your model includes lighting, keep the power switch accessible so you can easily turn the lights on when displaying the build.
04

Choose a Location You Can Enjoy Every Day

Many builders prefer displaying finished models in living rooms, home offices, reading corners, or other spaces they use often. A cabinet or shelf near a seating area lets the model become part of everyday life instead of being stored away.

Tip: In “A Place to Store My Builds”, community member @Jerry_Boswijk chose a display cabinet that fit beside the sofa and between two windows, making the finished builds easy to enjoy from multiple angles.
05

Display from the Best Viewing Angle

Most Robotime models are designed to be viewed from the front, but many also include side details, lighting effects, and moving features that are worth showcasing. The best display spot should let you enjoy the main scene without needing to move the model often.

Avoid placing finished models too high above eye level. Shelves, cabinets, or display areas near seating spaces often provide a better viewing experience.

Tip: Leave enough space around the model so it can be appreciated from more than one angle, especially if it has side details or moving parts.

Use a Glass Cabinet for Larger Collections

Glass cabinets are useful when you have multiple finished kits. They keep collections organized, reduce dust exposure, and allow vertical storage in a smaller footprint. If your cabinet is tall, extra shelves can help you use more of the vertical space.

Tip: In “Ikea Glass Cabinet for Rolife Kits”, community member @Jill_Francisco shared a glass cabinet setup that allows Rolife kits to be displayed vertically while keeping the collection organized and easier to clean.
