ROKR, Magic Piano Mechanical Music Box, AMK81, 3D wooden music box puzzle, side angle

Product: ROKR Magic Piano
SKU: AMK81
Product type: Mechanical music box 3D wooden puzzle

Quick answer: This guide covers piano-lid fit, G4 alignment, gear rotation during the Step 4, Step 10, and Step 12 tests, stuck piano keys, and normal gear-start delay for the ROKR Magic Piano AMK81. For the full build sequence, use the Assembly Guide. If a part is missing, broken, uncut, or visibly warped, request it through Part Replacement.

In This Guide

Before You Troubleshoot

  • Keep the instruction manual open at the exact test step you are checking.
  • Turn gears and flower petals gently by hand during diagnosis. Stop if you feel strong resistance.
  • Apply wax only to the surfaces identified in the guide.
  • Before removing a section, note the shaft, bushing, and gear positions so you can restore them correctly.

Common Assembly Problems

Why won't the piano lid close fully?

The hinge screws on the piano body may be too tight. Loosen the indicated hinge screws slightly, then close the lid again and check its fit. Do not remove the screws.

Why is G4 crooked after assembly?

G4 can sit crooked when P10, D2, or F10 is not fully aligned. Check all three areas:

P10 and D3: Confirm that both the upper and lower ends of steel shaft P10 are seated in D3.

D2: Insert D2 until its edge reaches the marked line.

F10: Confirm that F10 is seated evenly in the position shown.

Gear Rotation Problems

Why do the gears stick during the first Step 4 test?

Check lubrication, gear height, and shaft placement:

  1. Wax gears F19, G5, and A1, plus the inner ring of F10.
  2. Check that G1 and G5 engage and sit flush when viewed from the side. Adjust their alignment gently if needed.
  3. If G1 and G5 remain at different heights, confirm that the 25 mm P10 shaft has not been confused with another shaft and that P10 and P13 use the 3 mm holes shown in the manual.

Why do the gears stick during the second Step 4 test?

  1. Confirm that P8 and all three P10 shafts are in their corresponding holes. If a shaft is misplaced, remove D13, reposition it, and reinstall D13.
  2. If the exposed shaft is too short for D13, check whether a 25 mm P10 shaft was used in the wrong location and compare every shaft and bushing with the marked positions.
  3. Temporarily remove F21 and F20, confirm that D2 reaches the marked line, and press F10 fully into position.

Why do the gears stick during the first Step 10 test?

Remove F1 and turn F20 gently by hand. If F20 then rotates smoothly, wind the movement and test again. If resistance remains or returns after F1 is installed, check these points:

  1. Confirm that the 20 mm P9 shaft was not used incorrectly in Step 9. Compare the exposed shaft length with the correct example.
  2. Polish and wax F9, and confirm that four P13 bushings are installed—two on each side of F9.
  3. If the gears rotate before F1 is installed but bind afterward, polish the F1 holes, loosen the fit slightly, and do not press F1 fully against the mechanism.

Why do the gears stick during the second Step 10 or Step 12 test?

Turn the flower petals clockwise a small amount several times, checking the gear movement after each turn. If the gears still do not rotate smoothly, remove the two sections shown below, turn the petals again, and retest before reassembly.

Why are the piano keys blocking the gears?

Check the key assembly at three locations:

  1. In Step 5, confirm that the arrow directions on F26, F27, and F28 are consistent.
  2. In Step 8, make the right end of the long steel shaft flush so there is no gap.
  3. Confirm that all five P7 screws face the same direction.

The arrows on F26, F27, and F28 should point in matching directions.

All five P7 screws should be installed in the same direction.

Why do the gears start after the music has already begun?

A delay of one or two notes is normal because the movement needs time to drive the full gear train. If you also feel obvious resistance when turning the mechanism by hand, check that G7, F3, and G3 are fully seated and that the connected assembly has no gap.
