How Should I Care for a Finished DIY Kit?

After a Robotime, ROKR, Rolife, or Rowood DIY kit is finished, regular care helps it stay clean, stable, and beautiful for longer. A finished model is still made from delicate materials such as wood, paper, paint, glue, lights, and tiny decorations, so gentle cleaning and a stable display environment matter.

Long-Term Care Guide for Finished DIY Kits

01

Keep the Display Environment Stable

Wooden models can be affected by temperature changes, humidity, sunlight, dust, and air quality. Try to keep finished kits in a stable indoor area instead of near heating vents, damp rooms, strong window light, or places with frequent temperature changes.

Tip: Robotime explains the material care basics in “A Scientific Approach to Help Your Builds Last Longer”, including how temperature, humidity, sunlight, and dust can affect finished wooden builds over time.
02

Remove Dust Gently

Use a soft brush, small makeup brush, camera cleaning brush, or hand air blower to remove dust from delicate parts. Avoid pushing hard into paper flowers, tiny furniture, window frames, wires, or moving details.

Tip: Avoid wet cloths and chemical cleaners on wood, paper, painted surfaces, and electrical parts. Gentle dry dust removal is usually safer for finished miniature kits and wooden models.
03

Reduce Cleaning Work with a Cabinet or Dust Cover

Miniatures are detailed and can be difficult to clean once dust settles into tiny corners. A glass cabinet, display box, or dust cover can reduce dust exposure and make long-term care easier, especially for large collections.

Tip: In “Ikea Glass Cabinet for Rolife Kits”, builders discuss how glass cabinets can make miniatures easier to display and easier to keep clean.
04

Remove Batteries for Long-Term Display

If your finished kit uses batteries and will not be lit for a long time, remove the batteries before long-term display or storage. This helps reduce the risk of battery leakage and protects the battery box, wires, and lighting components.

Tip: Store removed batteries separately and check the battery box occasionally if the model is displayed for a long period.
05

Keep Manuals, Box Fronts, and Model Information

Saved box fronts and records from completed Robotime kits

Keep the instruction manual, model name, part information, or even the box front after finishing a kit. These records are useful if you need to repair the model, replace a part, move the display, or remember which kits you have completed.

Tip: In “Completed Kits Boxes”, a community member shares the idea of saving the front picture from completed kit boxes, while other builders recommend keeping instruction manuals for future repairs or modifications.
