About This Episode

For many crafters, the love of miniature building starts unexpectedly. For Tina, it began during a birthday shopping trip. She originally planned to buy stained glass supplies, but after walking down the miniature aisle at a Michaels craft store, she discovered Rolife kits on display. That small moment turned into a new passion.

Her first kit was Cathy’s Flower House, a detailed miniature project that became especially meaningful because it was the one that started everything. Although it was not the easiest beginner kit, Tina pushed through the challenge and found herself completely drawn into the process.

Liset’s journey began in a different way. As a wound care nurse and mother from the Netherlands, she was looking for a hobby that could give her some time for herself. After discovering Robotime builds online and through social media, she tried a small miniature kit and soon moved on to ROKR and Rolife projects. Over time, she also began adding her own creative touch by painting and customizing her builds.

Together, Tina and Liset share how crafting became more than a hobby. It became a way to slow down, feel calm, express creativity, spend meaningful time with family, and connect with other makers around the world.

What You’ll Hear in This Episode

  • How Tina accidentally discovered miniature crafting while shopping for stained glass supplies.
  • Why Cathy’s Flower House became the kit Tina will always keep.
  • How Liset started building while looking for a relaxing hobby during pregnancy.
  • Why miniature crafting can feel peaceful, exciting, and occasionally frustrating.
  • How Liset created a Van Gogh-inspired version of the ROKR Magic Piano.
  • Why both guests believe crafting can bring people and families closer together.

Meet the Guests

Tina

Tina is a former office manager based in Indiana. After years of managing paperwork and details, she found that those same skills helped her enjoy the careful, step-by-step process of miniature crafting. She also enjoys camping with her family, stained glass, and spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Her first Rolife kit was Cathy’s Flower House, and it remains one of her most meaningful projects. She has also enjoyed builds such as Romantic Venice, Arcade Dating, and Street Scene.

Liset

Liset is a wound care nurse from the Netherlands and a mother to a young daughter who already enjoys helping her build. She discovered Robotime while looking for a relaxing personal hobby and soon began exploring both building and painting.

One of her most memorable projects is painting ROKR Magic Piano with the color and mood of Van Gogh’s Starry Night. She later planned to continue the theme with another Van Gogh-inspired build based on Sunflowers.

Memorable Moments

1. A birthday gift that became a new passion

Tina’s story began with a simple birthday shopping trip. She intended to buy stained glass supplies, but after seeing completed Rolife miniature kits on display, she brought home one or two kits. Within a week, she had already bought more.

That accidental discovery became the beginning of a hobby she now deeply loves.

2. The joy of getting lost in the process

For Tina, crafting can fill an entire day. She describes the experience as peaceful and exciting at the same time. Each step in the instruction book brings curiosity because the final result slowly comes together piece by piece.

Even when a part feels difficult, the sense of accomplishment after finishing it makes the process worthwhile.

3. Turning a kit into personal artwork

Liset brings her own creativity into miniature crafting by painting and customizing her builds. Her Van Gogh-inspired ROKR Magic Piano became a special project that stood out in the Robotime community.

It shows how a kit can become more than a finished model. With imagination, it can become a personal piece of art.

4. Crafting as a healthy addiction

Liset describes crafting as a “healthy addiction” because it brings relaxation, happiness, and a better mood. For her, building is not just something to do in free time. It is one of the few activities that gives her a truly happy feeling.

5. A hobby that brings people together

Both Tina and Liset talk about the social side of crafting. Whether it is family time, a local crafting group, or an online community, miniature building can help strangers become friends and give people a shared creative experience.

Why This Story Matters

Miniature crafting is not only about completing a beautiful model. As Tina and Liset show, it can become a way to slow down, focus the mind, and find joy in small details.

It can also create meaningful connection. A child helping a parent build, a family member adding a kit to a birthday wish list, or a group of crafters meeting for the first time all show how creativity can bring people closer together.

That is what Craftime is about: the stories behind the hands that build, the tiny worlds that come to life, and the joyful moments created along the way.
