Article: Melbourne Crafters Find Their Tribe

Melbourne Crafters Find Their Tribe

A Robotime meetup in Melbourne brings the crafting community together through DIY building, connection, and creative discovery.

MELBOURNE, VICTORIA — When Robotime community star Tricia decided to host a DIY crafting meetup in Sydenham, Victoria, she knew she was taking a leap of faith.

“Posters, tools, snacks, and kits are ready to have fun building and connecting with one another,” she wrote ahead of the event.

The weather on Saturday, December 12, was far from inviting, and Tricia was admittedly nervous and excited, yet that didn’t stop two determined builders, Carmie and Terii, from showing up at the 10:00 AM schedule, ready to create, connect, and build.

Spirits were high, kits were opened, tools were shared, and the small group settled into joyful building that was comfortable and satisfying. For Tricia, this first meeting proved that the interest was real and the spark was there. So she did what every great community builder does. She tried again.

One week later, on December 20, Tricia returned to the same venue with even more determination. This time, the weather was kinder, and so was the turnout.

“We all had a fantastic time building,” Tricia shared. “I’m very happy with it.”

A Festive Table Full of Holiday Builds

Some of the kits Robotime sent for the Australia meetup included the ROKR Santa on Sleigh Gravity Swing, Rolife Sakura Bonsai, Rolife Christmas Fireplace, Rolife Christmas Melody Tree, Rolife Christmas Candy Stand, and Rolife Christmas Town Music Box.

When photos of the event were posted on the Robotime community forum, global members quickly noticed how tidy the participants’ workspaces were. Most builders kept their parts neatly inside the boxes to prevent anything from going missing. Even so, Tricia laughed later, “You actually can’t avoid it from being scattered across the table.”

That small chaos was part of the magic.

The neat workspaces of the crafters were admirable.

Among the participants was Stephanie, who had fun at the event and posted a picture of her finished Sakura Bonsai kit beside Magnolia Nanci from the Rolife Flower Stories Series.

New Hobbies, New Confidence

For many who attended, this meetup was more than just a morning activity. It was the start of something new.

Theresa, who had previously focused on crocheting, discovered a whole new creative outlet through Robotime. Building wooden puzzles introduced her to a different kind of challenge, one that blended patience, precision, and imagination. Her supportive husband even crafted a small improvised tool to help align parts more easily, making perfect angles and smoother connections.

Carmie, who had just begun her Robotime journey, admitted the miniatures could be tricky, but she quickly found her rhythm.

“Yes, miniature builds are quite challenging,” she said, “but with the help of a pair of tweezers and the tools in the kit, the experience is a lot easier.” She added that she’s truly loving this hobby.

That mix of learning, problem-solving, and pride in finishing something by hand was exactly what Tricia hoped to create.

More Than a Meetup

Tricia describes her goal simply and beautifully.

She aims to bring local community members together to connect and build, while introducing them to Robotime and the joy of DIY crafting. “I love creating group gatherings where people can try a kit, enjoy building together, and feel like they are part of a community with the same hobby,” she says. “I also encourage them to join the Robotime community so they can share their builds and their stories.”

The meetup strives to make people feel like they’re part of a community of builders.

The response from participants showed just how well that vision landed.

“Everything was so well organized,” one attendee commented. “Thanks to Tricia for organizing such a wonderful event, and thank you to Robotime for their support.”Another said, “The experience of connecting with others through crafting is just wonderful.”

And one especially heartfelt message stated, “Through this journey, it feels fantastic to have family supporting our hobby.”

Tricia summed it up best by calling her group “amazing,” noting how much everyone enjoyed the activity.

A Growing Community of Builders in Melbourne

“My Robotime journey began in June 2025,” Tricia reflected. “Here I am spreading this wonderful experience to our community members here in Melbourne through our December workshop.”

For her, watching strangers quietly fall in love with 3D puzzles was the biggest reward

“Like any other day,” she said, “each attendee had silently found interest in building.”

With two successful meetups behind her and a growing group of local builders, Tricia is already looking ahead.

“Definitely will be more to come next year,” she shared. “It takes a lot of preparation, but it’s worth it.”

Judging by the smiles, the finished kits, and the new friendships forming around the table, Melbourne’s Robotime story is only just getting started.
